Is it possible they are coming back in popularity? I remember the Dutch Pantry's were one of the restaurant chains that I always wanted to go to when I was a child. Their rice pudding was my favorite food that they served. Then in the mid-1980's my wife and I were stationed with the military out west for several years. When we returned to an eastern US assignment to our disappointment we saw the chain had disappeared. We are currently assigned overseas but when we next return to the USA I plan to make a stop at one of the two restaurants mentioned above.David Hardwick - In Germanynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3016902290858278012.post-46448576091005695612010-07-19T15:59:14.058-04:002010-07-19T15:59:14.058-04:00There are two Dutch Pantry's operating now, on...There are two Dutch Pantry's operating now, one in Dubois, PA, the other in Clearfield, PA. I occasionally check the internet for Dutch Pantry entries because my grandmother and uncle started the restaurant chain in 1944 in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. The chain eventually grew to about 90 restaurants but that occurred after they sold it to Best Products in the late '60s. The restaurants did have gift shops that evolved into something similar to the Cracker Barrels' long before there was such a chain. I believe the name Dutch Pantry was an unfortunate choice by my relatives. The "Dutch" referred to Pennsylvania Dutch who are actually German. To confuse matters more, the windmill trademark is "Dutch" in the Holland sense. There are 2 or 3 of the restaurants in existence. How they survive is anyone's guess.jmwnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3016902290858278012.post-48970141140590272122009-12-03T00:44:54.330-05:002009-12-03T00:44:54.330-05:00I use to eat at the Dutch Pantry in New Castle, DE...I use to eat at the Dutch Pantry in New Castle, DE for years and loved it. They had a great salad bar and their own two signature salad dressings, Sweet & Sour and Creamy Sweet & Sour.Davidnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3016902290858278012.post-54382500763177965642009-11-26T00:33:04.015-05:002009-11-26T00:33:04.015-05:00Jay, if you ever return to check these comments, ...Jay, if you ever return to check these comments, I can assure you that you're not missing out on having ever eaten at a Cracker Barrel.

No offense to any rabid Cracker Barrel fans out there.David W.https://www.blogger.com/profile/12787360271258648033noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3016902290858278012.post-88232795366510836892009-11-25T14:38:38.077-05:002009-11-25T14:38:38.077-05:00lol..it shows that I'm on a different waveleng...lol..it shows that I'm on a different wavelength...the first thing I thought of was is there a "dutch oven" in the dutch pantry? lmao!
