Monster Monday #1: The Deadly One-Eye Monster

I was a kid who loved monsters, and would draw them all the time. For this month-long Halloween celebration, I thought it would be fun to dig up some of my childhood monster drawings, and redraw them now as an adult.

The monster above I drew when I was about 9 years old. Surprisingly, I still have memories of drawing this. I remember I was attempting to create the ultimate deadly monster. It had electricity it could shoot from its head antennae and tail. The creature has two whip-like appendages with spike balls at the end that is can swing to hit its opponent with. Last but not least, one arm was a claw. I don't know why I gave the monster human-like feet (FYI: yeah those were how I'd draw human feet), I probably thought it was funny. Also I believe I was attempting to use about every color of marker I had too.

So now without further delay, people of the Internets, I present to you the new and updated "Deadly One-Eye Monster" for 2009...

Unique Haunted Attraction Ad #1: Wonka's Fear Factory

From the 2001 Fear Finder...

To the best of my knowledge this particular attraction ran only one season, but I'm sure that damn boat ride was terrifying.

And so it begins....sorta

You know, I seriously considered participating in that Halloween Countdown thing that so many of my fellow bloggers are doing. But I just didn't have the time to properly prepare a "quality" post each day for the entire month of October.

So instead of a post each and every day, what do you say to a post about 3 times a week? (Well that's a rhetorical question, it's not like you're gonna have a choice).

To kick off this whole month long celebration to Halloween (and anything kooky and spooky) I have some retro Halloween napkins to share with you. Yeah I'm surprised as much as you are that I'm back to posting about napkins after my Groucho napkins posts. But I like the graphics on these - especially the one with the haunted house.

Also maybe someone who Googles "retro Halloween napkins" will find just what they were looking for, and I'm happy I could help. So you're very welcome possible future Google searcher, and these napkin close-ups are just for you...

Tiki Gardens

It's the middle of September, and I'm working on a bunch of special posts for October. I still have a bunch of Baseball Super Freaks to unload, but for the sake of variety here is a brochure for the long gone Tiki Gardens in Indian Shores, Florida...

I can dig the whole Tiki Culture thing, and wish I had my own Polynesian themed restaurant to hang out at.

Baseball Super Freaks: Part 1

A while back I had a post on the Football Super Freaks, but unfortunately I only had 4 of the possible 42 stickers to share with all you fine folks out there.

Today I'm happy to bring you the Baseball Super Freaks, and I have 34 of the possible 44 stickers share! Yeah it's 10 short of a complete set, but hey, what are you gonna do.

So please enjoy the four Baseball Super Freak stickers here, and I will continue post the rest of my collection throughout September.

Sweet Mystery of Life

Roadside "Mystery Spot -like" attractions are found all over the USA. These are extra strange places where the basic laws of gravity no longer apply. There is a famous Mystery Spot in Santa Cruz, CA, but it's always like California to hog all the attention. I live in Michigan, and we happen to have three "Mystery Spots" - so take that Cali!

There's the Mystery Spot in St. Ignace, Mystery Hill in Irish Hills, and Mystery Ridge in East Tawas (Although I don't think Mystery Ridge is open any longer, but I'm sure it's still filled with mystery never the less).

Now here are their vintage brochures...

I searched YouTube for a video of one of these Michigan mystery attractions in action, but it was that darn Santa Cruz spot that kept coming up.

Well here's something fun with the word "Mystery" in its title to end this post with...
